JiutartMany imagined that Erling Haaland could potentially terrorize the Premier League as the frontman for defending champions Manchester City. Those predictions are turning into reality as the Norwegian scoring machine has nine goals in five games. After a hat trick against Crystal Palace, he got another three goals on Wednesday against Nottingham Forest to lead the Premier League.
Fulham top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic similarly can’t stop scoring but he’s further behind Haaland on five goals. The Serbian international has scored in four of five matches thus far after netting once more against Brighton.
Crystal Palace goal scorer Wilfried Zaha has joined the four-goal tier after his latest strike against Brentford. Rodrigo also sits on four goals, but the Leeds forward left his midweek match early after picking up an injury. They’re joined by Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
A group of seven players are on three goals, including new Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus, his former Man City teammate Raheem Sterling, and Liverpool duo Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz.
There are another 12 players who have two goals, and that list now includes three Manchester City players, including another newcomer Julian Alvarez.
But “own goal” has had the better start to the season than all the above with 11 players scoring on their own net so far.
As was the case last season, The Sporting News will update the top scorers’ table with assists and minutes played serving as the first and second tiebreakers as per major European tournaments run by UEFA.

Premier League odds to win Golden Boot
Who do the sportsbooks think is the frontrunner for the top scorer title in England? It’s Haaland ahead of everyone else.
Previous winners Salah and Kane, are considered to be in with a good shot, both ahead of their other star teammates Nunez (Liverpool) and Son (Tottenham).
Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still on the books at Man United, but whose future at the club seems tenuous, clocks in with the seventh best odds to be the scoring king in England.
The biggest snubs by the betting market might be Diogo Jota (40/1) and West Ham newcomer Gianluca Scamacca (40/1).

Premier League Golden Boot table 2021/22
It came down to the final day of the 2021/22 season between Tottenham’s Son Heung-min and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. Son’s two goals at Norwich City on the final day allowed him to momentarily move ahead of Salah in the scoring table. But the Liverpool star came off the bench and netted late to catch Son, as the two stars shared the Golden Boot on 23 goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo (18 goals) was charging hard down the final stretch, but he ultimately came up short. Salah’s Liverpool’s teammates, Sadio Mane (16 goals) and Diogo Jota (15 goals), finished even further behind. And Manchester City had eight players with seven or more goals on the list. Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy, who were the previous two Golden Boot winners, were also top 10 finishers.
